Education Minister Unveils Four Admission Pathways in the New Student Enrollment System (SPMB)

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen), Abdul Mu'ti, announced that the New Student Enrollment System (SPMB), set to replace the current Student Admission System (PPDB) in 2025, will feature four admission pathways.

"There are four admission pathways: domicile or student residence, achievement, affirmation, and transfer," said Abdul Mu'ti during a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday (1/30).

He made this statement to clarify public misconceptions, as many believed that student admissions were solely based on the zoning system.

The minister explained that the domicile pathway is an adaptation of the existing zoning system, but with adjustments in implementation that may vary by region.

Meanwhile, the achievement pathway includes both academic and non-academic accomplishments. "Non-academic achievements consist of sports and arts, with leadership now added. Students actively involved in organizations such as the student council (OSIS) or scouting will be considered under this pathway," he explained.

The affirmation pathway is designated for students with disabilities and those from underprivileged backgrounds.

Lastly, the transfer pathway applies to children whose parents have been relocated for work assignments, including a quota for children of teachers working at specific schools.

Abdul Mu'ti emphasized that the transition from PPDB to SPMB is not merely a change in name but part of the government's effort to provide a more inclusive and equitable education system.

"This proposal has already been presented to the President, and he has approved its substance," he concluded.
