President Prabowo to Build School for Underprivileged and Extreme Poor Children
SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will build a community school, specifically for children from poor families and the extreme poor, under the authority of the Ministry of Social Affairs.
This was conveyed by Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar after attending a limited meeting on community empowerment chaired by President Prabowo Subianto at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, Friday.
“The President wants to create a special school for children who are not well-off, but still under the protection of their parents, to be fostered directly in a community school,” Muhaimin said.
Muhaimin said that the program is still being tested at three points in the Greater Jakarta area.
“Only three points first. Jabodetabek,” he said.
The schools, Muhaimin said, will prioritize students from poor families and the extreme poor.
When asked further about the level of education, Muhaimin emphasized that the public school will be shaped like a boarding school so that student nutrition can be guaranteed.
“Actually, the boarding school is the most important thing so that the nutrition is handled,” Muhaimin said.
It is also said that the Government is still testing the schools without fees.
