SEAToday.com, Lampung - A male baby rhino was born at Sumatran Rhino Breeding Center or Way Kambas National Park's Sumatran Rhino Sanctuary (SRS TNWK), Lampung, on Saturday (11/25). Currently, the baby rhino, weighing 25 kilograms, is healthy and can suckle well from its mother. The baby rhino can also stand upright and walk.

Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya explained that the baby Sumatran rhino (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis) was born from a mother named Delilah, a female rhino born naturally on May 11, 2016.

Delilah gave birth to the male rhino outside the expected time, on the 460th day of pregnancy, 10 days earlier than expected. This was the second birth of a rhino calf in 2023 and the first birth of the seven-year-old mother. Currently, there are five Sumatran rhino calves born at SRS TNWK, namely Andatu (2012), Delilah (2016), Sedah Mirah (2022), the third calf from Ratu-Andalas (September 30, 2023), and Delilah-Harapan (November 25, 2023).
