SEAToday.com, Singapore - Singapore joined 13 other countries in condemning attacks by Houthi rebels to commercial ships in the Red Sea and further warned of consequences, Thursday (1/4).

The joint statement came from the Governments of the US, Australia, Bahrain, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Republic of Korea, Singapore, and the UK, called for an end to the ongoing attack in the Red Sea which was deemed as “illegal, unacceptable, and profoundly destabilizing”, as it targets civilian shipping and naval vessels.

“The Houthis will bear the responsibility of the consequences should they continue to threaten lives, the global economy, and free flow of commerce in the region’s critical waterways,” written in the statement.

The attacks began back in Nov. as an attempt to pressure Israel to stop its attack against Palestinians in Gaza. The statement was also released following a call for halt of the attacks from the United Nations Security Council members on Jan. 3.
