AS Akan Putus Bantuan Militer Terhadap Satu Unit Militer Israel

SEAToday.com, Washington-Amerika Serikat (AS) dikabarkan memutus bantuan terhadap batalion Natzah Yehuda Israel atas dugaan pelanggaran hak asasi manusia di West Bank, Palestina.

Menteri Luar Negeri AS Antony Blinken mengungkap dirinya telah bertekad untuk membuat keputusan sehingga ia meminta masyarakat untuk menanti hal tersebut untuk terjadi dalam beberapa waktu kedepan.

Di lain sisi, militer Israel melalui Reuters mengungkap pihaknya menjalankan militer sesuai dengan hukum internasional yang berlaku. Menteri Pertahanan Israel Yoav Gallant juga meminta AS untuk mengurungkan niatnya memutus bantuan bagi salah satu batalion Israel.

“IDF (Israel Defense Force) tidak mengetahui adanya sanksi terhadap salah satu batalion dan akan terus bekerja dan berupaya menyelidiki kejadian yang tidak wajar dengan praktis dan sesuai dengan hukum,” kata pihak militer Israel.

AS sendiri memiliki Hukum Leahy dimana di dalamnya mengatur tentang pencegahan pendanaan atau pelatihan AS yang digunakan untuk unit militer asing terduga pelanggar hak asasi manusia berat. Hukum ini dicetuskan oleh Senator Patrick Leahy tahun 1997.

Mantan pejabat senior AS mengungkapkan sejak tahun lalu, AS telah menjalankan pemeriksaan atas tuduhan ke berbagai unit militer Israel. Ia juga mengatakan senantiasa menyampaikan rekomendasi pemeriksaan ke tingkat politik melalui Menteri Luar Negeri, walaupun sulit.

“Kami percaya dalam sebagian besar kasus, hal ini tidak dapat diselesaikan. Artinya para pelaku belum diadili secara layak,” kata mantan Direktur Biro Urusan Politik-Militer Departemen Luar Negeri AS, yang mengawasi transfer senjata AS.

Sementara itu, telah menjadi rahasia publik bahwa AS merupakan salah satu sekutu Israel paling setia. Hal ini dapat terlihat dari penggunaan hak veto AS di berbagai resolusi mengenai konflik Israel dengan Palestina. (KALILA/DKD)
