Jakarta KPU to Support 22,000 Mentally Ill Voters in 2024 General Election

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The DKI Jakarta General Election Commission (KPU) will facilitate people with disabilities and mental disorders (ODGJ) to channel their political rights in the upcoming 2024 election. According to data from the DKI Jakarta KPU, the permanent voter list for the 2024 election includes a total of 8,252,897 voters. Among them, 61,747 are persons with disabilities, including 22,871 with intellectual disabilities or ODGJ.
Technically, ODGJ under the guardianship of mental hospitals or social institutions will be granted the right to vote. The KPU will coordinate with caregivers so that ODGJ can participate in the 2024 elections. However, the DKI Jakarta KPU admits that it is still waiting for an official decision on the technical regulations. According to Division Head Astri, the health of ODGJ voters tends to fluctuate, so it is necessary to ensure that they are healthy before exercising their right to vote.
The DKI Jakarta KPU has mapped ODGJ voters to be centered in institutions. This is done to provide assistance when they go to the polling station.
