SEAToday.com, Jakarta-Letusan Gunung Ibu yang berada di barat laut Pulau Halmahera, Maluku Utara, melambungkan awan abu vulkanik setinggi lima kilometer (km) dari puncak gunung api bertipe strato tersebut.
"Erupsi itu terekam di seismogram dengan amplitudo maksimum 28 milimeter dan durasi sementara ini lebih kurang 2 menit 37 detik," kata Ridwan dalam laporan yang diterima di Jakarta, Senin, 20 Mei 2024, dilansir Antara.
Gunung Ibu memiliki ketinggian puncak 1.340 meter di atas permukaan laut itu secara administratif termasuk ke dalam wilayah Kecamatan Ibu, Kabupaten Halmahera Barat, Provinsi Maluku Utara.
Badan Geologi Kementerian Energi dan Sumber Daya Mineral mengamati secara visual dan instrumental dari pos pengamatan gunung api yang berlokasi di Desa Gam Ici, Kecamatan ibu, Kabupaten Halmahera Barat, Maluku Utara.
Pada 16 Mei 2024, pukul 15.00 WIT, Badan Geologi resmi menaikkan status Gunung Ibu dari sebelumnya siaga atau level III menjadi awas atau level IV. Keputusan menaikkan status itu lantaran ada peningkatan jumlah gempa dan lontaran abu vulkanik yang cenderung lebih tinggi dari biasanya.
Masyarakat di sekitar Gunung Ibu dan pengunjung atau wisatawan diminta agar tidak beraktivitas, mendaki, dan mendekati Gunung Ibu di dalam radius empat kilometer dan sektoral tujuh kilometer dari arah bukaan kawah di bagian utara dari kawah aktif.
