SEAToday.com, Tel Aviv - The Israeli parliament on Monday (10/28) approved two laws to ban the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) from operating in areas under Israeli control. The ban, set to take effect in 90 days, could lead  to the closure of UNRWA operations in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, risking the already limited humanitarian aid in Gaza.

The first law bans UNRWA from conducting “any activity” or providing any service within Israel. The second law declares UNRWA a “terror” organization and forbids Israeli officials from any contact with the agency.

The decision has been widely condemned by multiple countries and international organizations. UN Secretary-General António Guterres warned of "devastating consequences" for Palestinian refugees and urged Israel to uphold its obligations under the United Nations Charter.
