SEAToday.com, Praha - Sedikitnya, delapan orang tewas setelah Badai Boris membawa hujan lebat dan menyebabkan banjir yang meluas di seluruh Eropa Tengah dan Timur, Minggu (15/9).

Banjir tersebut menewaskan enam orang di Rumania dan masing-masing satu orang di Austria dan Polandia. Empat orang lainnya dilaporkan hilang setelah terseret arus di Republik Ceko.

Provinsi Austria di sekitar Wina telah dinyatakan sebagai daerah bencana, sementara PM Polandia Donald Tusk menyatakan keadaan bencana alam. Republik Ceko disebut mengalami dampak terparah karena sejumlah daerah mengalami hujan dengan curah hujan setara tiga bulan hanya dalam waktu tiga hari. 260.000 rumah dikabarkan terputus dari aliran listrik.

Di Opava, 10.000 orang dari populasi 56.000 diminta untuk pindah ke tempat yang lebih tinggi. Walikota Tomáš Navrátil mengumumkan kepada radio publik bahwa situasinya lebih buruk daripada banjir tahun 1997 yang dikenal sebagai “banjir abad ini”. Sementara itu, kota-kota dan desa-desa di pegunungan Jeseniky terendam banjir dan terisolasi oleh air bah yang mengubah jalan menjadi sungai. Hingga saat ini, evakuasi korban banjir masih terus dilakukan.
