US House Passes Bill to Sanction ICC Over Israeli Officials’ Arrest Warrants Bid
SEAToday.com, Washington D.C. - On Tuesday (6/4), the US House of Representatives passed legislation to sanction the International Criminal Court (ICC) in response to the ICC's chief prosecutor's request to issue arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
The bill, proposed by pro-Israel Republicans, targets ICC officials involved in the case by restricting their entry to the United States. It passed with a vote of 247-155, supported primarily by Republicans and 42 pro-Israel Democrats.
Despite its passage in the House, the bill faces an uphill battle in the Senate, which is currently controlled by the Democrats. The White House has also opposed the sanctions, calling them an "overreach".
