SEAToday.com, Denpasar - To tackle traffic congestion, water taxis will soon be operated in Bali by the end of the year or around December 2025. This was revealed by Deputy Minister of Transportation Suntana on Friday (2/28).

"We have discussed it. The Transportation Minister plans to reduce congestion from the airport to Seminyak-Uluwatu. We will try to use the sea route, namely motorized taxis," said Suntana.

He revealed that this taxi will later serve the sea route from I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport to Seminyak, Kuta, and Uluwatu. From the trial result using jukung boats, the travel time from the airport to Seminyak and Uluwatu is only 35-40 minutes, but according to Suntana if later using the planned boat then the travel time is only 25-30 minutes.

The water taxis are expected to provide an alternative mode of transportation for both tourists and locals, reducing dependence on road transport and easing congestion in key tourist areas. The initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance Bali’s infrastructure and tourism experience, particularly in anticipation of increasing tourist arrivals.

The Ministry of Transportation is currently assessing the types of boats to be used, as well as the necessary docking facilities and ticketing systems. Further details, including fare prices and operational schedules, are expected to be announced in the coming months.
