Four SPMB Paths School Entry Options You Need to Know

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - In 2025, the New Student Admissions System (SPMB) will replace the New Student Admissions mechanism (PPDB). The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen) Abdul Mu'ti revealed that in this new system, there are four student admission pathways that will be implemented.
"We convey that there are four new student admission pathways, the first is the student's domicile or place of residence, the second is achievement, the third is the affirmation pathway, and the fourth is the mutation pathway," said Abdul Mu'ti in a press conference in Jakarta, as reported by Antara News.
This was stated to avoid misunderstandings, he emphasized that student admissions are not only through zoning.
The Minister of Education and Culture said that the domicile system, known as zoning, will be adjusted to the conditions of the area where the student lives.
The achievement pathway, according to him, is a student admission pathway that is based on achievements in both academic and non-academic fields.
"Non-academic includes two fields, namely sports and arts, now added with leadership. Students who are active in organizations such as OSIS or Scouts, for example, will be considered in the achievement pathway," he explained.
Furthermore, the affirmative pathway is intended for people with disabilities and students from underprivileged families.
Finally, the mutation pathway is related to parental assignments, including quotas for children of teachers who teach at certain schools.
The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education emphasized that the change from PPDB to SPMB is not just a name change, but a government step to improve the quality of education services for all groups.
"We have submitted this draft to the President, and he said he agreed with the substance of our proposal," he said.
