SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Four United Nations peacekeepers in Lebanon (UNIFIL) were injured following targeted attacks on the country, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported on Wednesday, (11/20/2024). The ministry condemned the rocket fire, allegedly launched by Hezbollah, which struck two UNIFIL positions in southern Lebanon on November 19.

The attacks wounded four Ghanaian peacekeepers, three of whom required hospitalization. Additionally, a French UNIFIL patrol was struck by rockets on the same day, though no injuries were reported.

In recent weeks, several Blue Helmets have been harmed in similar incidents, underscoring heightened risks in the region.

UNIFIL has frequently reported targeted assaults by Israeli forces, including strikes on forward posts, two Italian bases, and UNIFIL’s headquarters. Italian leaders have repeatedly criticized these actions as unacceptable.

Amid ongoing Israeli-Hezbollah clashes, over 2,500 casualties have been reported in Lebanon since Israel's operations intensified on October 1. Meanwhile, Israel maintains that its actions aim to secure northern areas and facilitate the safe return of 60,000 displaced residents.
