SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Some people may think that the Mobile Brigade (Brimob) and police are two professions under two different auspices. Both Brimob and the police are under the same agency, the Indonesian National Police. However, their duties and responsibilities are slightly different.

The Brimob is included in the Indonesian National Police (Polri), similar to Traffic Corps, Densus 88 Anti-Terrorism, Criminal Investigation Agency, and so on. But, compared to other units, Brimob does have a specialty, because Brimob is an elite unit of the Police.

The following are the differences between Brimob and the Police.

Brimob

Brimob is a specialized unit within the Indonesian National Police equipped with special training and equipment. Brimob is dedicated to carrying out special tasks that require advanced skills and abilities.

Brimob’s main mission is to handle difficult and extreme security situations, such as riots, acts of terrorism, hostage-taking, or large-scale conflicts. Brimob is also responsible for securing national vital objects and large-scale operational activities.

Brimob is the main pillar of the National Police in dealing with high-intensity crimes, tasked with resolving various threats or disturbances to security and order in society.

Brimob is specially trained in riot control techniques, handling demonstrations, and dealing with situations involving large crowds.

Brimob units are highly trained to deal with dangerous situations and have tactical capabilities and specialized knowledge in handling such cases.

Brimob is also responsible for protecting and securing important objects such as government installations, power plants, airports, ports, and other critical infrastructure.

Police

The police is a law enforcement agency tasked with protecting society, maintaining order, and preventing and dealing with crime.

Police duties include security patrols, law enforcement, crime investigation, traffic regulation, and providing assistance in emergencies.

The police are responsible for maintaining security and providing protection for the entire community.

The police are there to maintain security and public order, and provide protection to citizens.

They are also authorized to conduct investigations and inquiries into crimes, such as collecting evidence, interrogating witnesses, and searching for clues to uncover crimes, identify perpetrators, and bring them to justice.

Not only that, the police are also in charge of handling emergency events such as traffic accidents, natural disasters, or other events that require a quick response.

The Differences Between Brimob and Police

1. Specialization

The main difference between Brimob and the police lies in task specialization. The police have the general responsibility of maintaining security and order, while Brimob focuses more on handling difficult and extreme security situations.

2. Training and Equipment

Brimob receive special training and are equipped with special equipment. This includes weapons and tactical gear, which allows them to carry out high-risk tasks. The police also receive training, but it is not as intensive and fully specialized as Brimob.

3. Operational Capability

Brimob has higher operational capabilities in handling large-scale emergencies and conflict situations. They are equipped with special equipment, tactical vehicles, and have a higher readiness to act in stressful conditions.

4. Uniform

Another difference between Brimob and the police is in the uniform they wear.

Police members generally wear light brown for their shirts and dark brown for their pants. Some units use hats and some use berets.

Brimob includes members of the Police who wear a navy blue beret. In other units, such as the traffic police, they wear white hats, Densus 88 wear red berets, Sabhara wear brown berets, Provos wear light blue berets, and so on.

Brimob has several types of uniforms. Apart from the usual brown colour, Brimob also has black, green, and camouflage uniforms.
