SEAToday.com, Jakarta-Iraqi Health Ministry reported that hundreds of newborns in the country were named after the late Hezbollah leader Nasrallah, who died in an Israeli strike.

Cited from The New Arab, hundreds of newborns born in various regions of Iraq were named after the late leader. A news media said, it was a way to honor his martyrdom.

Nasrallah was killed in a massive Israeli strike that hit the southern suburbs of Beirut, Friday (9/27).

Born in 1960, Nasrallah joined the Hezbollah in 1982, the same year the organization was formed to help fight Israel, which was invading Lebanon, with the help of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.

Known as a dedicated student to the Shiah teaching, he quickly got promoted and became the third secretary general of the organization in 1992, after his predecessor, Abbas Musawi, was killed by Israel.

Nasrallah was famous among Iraqis for being the symbol of the fight against Israel and western influences in the region.

His fight against western influences in the Middle East attracted many Iraqis, especially those who were critical of the United States’ presence in Iraq after the 2003 invasion.
