UNESCO Jadikan Biara Kuno di Gaza sebagai Situs Warisan Dunia

SEAToday.com, New Delhi - Pertemuan Komite Warisan Dunia UNESCO di New Delhi, India, pada Jumat (26/7) memasukkan situs “Biara Saint Hilarion/Tell Umm Amer” di Gaza, Palestina, ke dalam Daftar Warisan Dunia dan Daftar Warisan Dunia yang Terancam.
Keputusan memasukkan situs tersebut dalam dua daftar adalaj sebagai pengakuan atas nilai situs tersebut dan kebutuhan untuk melindunginya dari bahaya di tengah konflik yang sedang berlangsung di Jalur Gaza. Komite tersebut menggunakan prosedur darurat yang diatur dalam Konvensi Warisan Dunia yang menyatakan 195 Negara Anggota harus berkomitmen untuk menghindari tindakan disengaja yang menyebabkan kerusakan langsung atau tidak langsung pada situs tersebut, dan untuk membantu perlindungannya.
Biara ini merupakan salah satu situs tertua di Timur Tengah, didirikan oleh Santo Hilarion dan merupakan rumah bagi komunitas biara pertama di Tanah Suci. Berdiri sejak abad ke-4, biara ini merupakan pusat pertukaran agama, budaya, dan ekonomi, yang menggambarkan kemakmuran situs-situs biara gurun pada periode Bizantium.
Selain Biara Saint Hilarion/tell Umm Amer di Gaza, Palestina, tahun ini UNESCO menambahkan total 24 situs ke dalam Daftar Warisan Dunia.
