Gelombang Panas India Tewaskan 33 Petugas Pemilu pada Hari Terakhir Pemilu di Uttar Pradesh
SEAToday.com, Uttar Pradesh - Sedikitnya 33 petugas pemungutan suara di negara bagian Uttar Pradesh, India Utara, meninggal dunia diduga akibat serangan panas (heatstroke) pada hari terakhir pemilihan umum, Sabtu (1/6). Hal ini diumumkan oleh petugas pemilihan, Minggu (2/6).
India dilanda gelombang panas ekstrem sejak awal bulan Mei. Ibu kota New Delhi mencatat suhu 52,9°C minggu lalu, merupakan suhu tertinggi yang pernah ada di negara tersebut. Terdapat sejumlah laporan kematian akibat heatstroke. Setidaknya, 56 orang dilaporkan meninggal dan hampir 25.000 kasus dugaan heatstroke dilaporkan dari bulan Maret hingga Mei.
Badan cuaca India memperkirakan suhu akan menurun dalam beberapa hari ke depan. Kedatangan musim hujan yang lebih awal di negara bagian selatan Kerala minggu lalu diperkirakan akan membantu membuat suhu menjadi lebih dingin.
