PBB Imbau Tahun Ini jadi Suhu Terpanas Bumi Sepanjang Sejarah
SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Perserikatan Bangsa-Bangsa (PBB) memberi peringatan bahwa tahun 2024 berpotensi memecahkan rekor suhu terpanas bumi sepanjang sejarah. Sebelumnya rekor pertama terjadi pada tahun lalu yang terpanas sejak tahun 1850.
World Meteorological Organization (WMO) bahwa suhu global tahun lalu memecahkan rekor naik 0,2 derajat Celcius. Hal ini menimbulkan kekhawatiran khusus seperti yang dikatakan oleh Sekretaris Jenderal WMO, Celeste Paulo.
“Apa yang kita saksikan pada tahun 2023, terutama dengan pemanasan laut yang belum pernah terjadi sebelumnya, penyusutan gletser, dan hilangnya es laut Antartika, menimbulkan kekhawatiran khusus,” kata Pauo dikutip dari CNA.
“Kemungkinan besar tahun 2024 akan mencatat rekor panas baru,” kata Kepala pemantauan iklim WMO, Omar Baddour. Dilaporkan juga bahwa suhu laut Atlantik Utara di atas rata-rata sekitar 3 derajat celcius pada akhir 2023.
Karena itulah organisasi dunia bersama-sama menyerukan peringatan merah kepada masyarakat. Seorang ahli meteorologi asal Argentina, Saulo juga turut angkat bicara mengenai kekhawatirannya terhadap beberapa negara yang paling terdampak, khususnya di Asia Selatan.
