SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The Government of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) will fly aid for disaster victims in Yemen, Palestine and Sudan using airplanes from Base Ops SUMA 1 Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base Jakarta, Monday (10/14) evening.
Monitored at Base Ops SUMA 1 Halim Perdanakusuma, Monday, airport authority officers were seen packing at least six units of aid containers from the warehouse into the luggage of Garuda Indonesia Airbus 330-300 Aircraft.
Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Suharyanto, accompanied by the ambassadors of Palestine, Yemen and Sudan, are scheduled to release the humanitarian aid with a total value of 3 million US dollars directly at 16:20 local time.
The humanitarian aid consists of thousands of units of refugee tents, family tents, tarpaulins, mattresses, blankets, lighting lamps, children's clothing, women's clothing, ready-to-eat food, basic necessities, jerry cans, water purifiers, medicines, and medical equipment.
Each aid is intended for 268,000 Yemeni disaster victims, 2,895 people infected with cholera and 491,000 flood victims in Sudan and 1.9 million refugees affected by polio in Palestine.
The aid came from donations given by the public, ministries and institutions, such as the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Amil Zakat Agency (BAZNAS), the Ready Fund of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), and others.
All the aid from Indonesia departed on Monday (10/14) night and is expected to arrive on Tuesday (10/15) morning in Yemen to be transited to two other countries.
Previously, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy revealed that the Indonesian Government prepared the assistance to alleviate the impact of citizens of friendly countries experiencing humanitarian crises due to natural disasters and military aggression activities.
Muhadjir hopes that the burden of victims of disasters and humanitarian crises in friendly countries can be lighter through this assistance, as well as further strengthen Indonesia's role in the international arena in urging the creation of peace between nations and upholding humanitarian values.
