SEAToday.com, Bangkok – On Monday (8/20), Thailand Education Ministry plans to limit the use of digital devices by students in schools. The government concerned that excessive screen time could harm the students’ development.

Research has shown that too much time sent on smartphones and tablets can lower IQ, shorten attention spans and slow learning in children. Some countries have already restricted or banned the use of these devices in schools, particularly for students under 16 years old.

To address these issues, the office of the education council proposes increasing outdoor activities such as music lessons, sports and exercises, to help students reduce their reliance on digital devices.

Reading and storytelling classes will also be offered more frequently to enhance focus and cognitive development in young learners.

Parents are encouraged to spend more quality time with their children, helping them disconnect from screens and promoting better emotional and mental health.

The education ministry aims to create a balanced approach that supports students overall development while reducing the negative impacts of technology.
