Indonesia Demands UN Policy on Resettlement of Rohingya Refugee
SEAToday.com, Jakarta-Indonesia is demanding the UN member's policy with the continued Rohingya refugee wave that comes to Indonesia. Now there are more than 1600 refugees that have come to Indonesia, and Indonesia welcomed the refugees with the humanitarian principle. Indonesians are still trying to find the best solution to put the Rohingya refugee out of controversy.
The government has coordinated with UN organizations such as UNHCR to accommodate fellow refugees who keep on coming to Indonesia.mAccording to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the need is to solve the root of the problem which is the Myanmar conflict, where all the ASEAN countries need to find a solution to handle the matter.
“About the Rohingya issue, we will reaffirm the international obligations of all un member states, especially countries that are parties to the refugee convention, towards the Rohingya, we see that the handling of this refugee problem, especially the issue of resettlement, has been prolonged, so far. We therefore request that states parties to the convention and the international community show more responsibility for resolving the Rohingya refugee problem”, said Lalu Muhammad Iqbal, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson.
Muhammad Iqbal also said that Minister Retno Marsudi is attending the global refugee meeting with the UN in Geneva, Switzerland currently. Indonesia is demanding policy affirmation related to the Rohingya refugees.
