Mount Semeru Hiking Suspension Continues Until February 8 for Safety Reasons

SEAToday.com, Jakarta – The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) has extended the closure of the hiking trails until February 8, 2025. Previously, the closure of the hiking route to Ranu Kumbolo was in effect from January 2 to January 16, 2025.
This decision was made by TNBTS after considering the extreme weather conditions throughout January 2025, as advised by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
"Taking into account the weather conditions and based on the advisory from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency regarding extreme weather throughout January 2025, the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Authority has decided to extend the closure of Mount Semeru hiking trails until February 8, 2025," TNBTS stated in an Instagram post at @bbtnbromotenggersemeru.
The extension of the hiking closure is outlined in an official announcement issued by the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Authority, numbered PG.2/T.8/TU/KSA.5.1/B//01/2025, dated January 17, 2025, and signed by the Head of the National Park Authority, Rudijanta Tjahja Nugraha.
The closure serves as a precautionary measure to prevent any unwanted incidents and to ensure the safety and comfort of visitors from natural disasters triggered by extreme weather.
The public is urged to comply with the closure regulations and to refrain from engaging in illegal hiking activities.
“We urge prospective visitors to adhere to the closure announcement of Mount Semeru hiking trails and to avoid any illegal hiking activities,” the post concluded.
