The Death Toll from Jeju Air Accident in South Korea Rises to 85
SEAToday.com, Seoul - The Korean firefighter agency confimed the death toll from Jeju Air flight 7C 2216 accident have rises to 85. The plane caught fire after skidding while crossing the runway at the Muan Airport in South Korea, Sunday (12/29) at 9 AM local time.
Jeju Air flight 7C 2216 which departed from Bangkok, Thailand, was reportedly carrying 175 passengers and six crew members. The fire was put out 43 minutes after the initial crash.
Yonhap News Agency reported officials suspect a landing gear failure, possibly due to a bird strike, may have caused the accident. They have begun an on-site investigation to determine the exact cause, the Yonhap news agency reported.
As of 12:30 p.m., emergency responders have rescued two people.
All flights arriving at the Muan International Airport in South Korea were also canceled due to the accident.
