Jakarta Provincial Government to Free Six-Month Flat Rent for Homeless People Living under Toll Roads

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Government has announced that it will waive the rent for six months for all residents living under the toll road who have moved in to the flats.
“Those who have moved into flats, for six months, we ‘free’ them (of rent). There will be no charges at all, and then there will also be some basic food assistance,” said Jakarta Acting Governor Teguh Setyabudi on Tuesday (11/26).
He explained that some people under the toll in West Jakarta and North Jakarta have already moved to flats on Jalan Tongkol, Pademangan.
Teguh further explained that some residents voluntarily moved to rent independently and some went to the Cipayung Center run by the Social Service.
Teguh said residents who choose to move to rented houses will be assisted to find suitable rented houses and given free rent for up to two months.
“The arrangement of the area under the toll road, of course, we will also coordinate with the Ministry of Public Works (PU), Jasa Marga and related OPDs (Regional Apparatus Organizations), for example Bina Marga, Parks, or maybe the Environment as well. Of course, it is also Satpol PP who enforces the regional regulations,” Teguh said.
Later, Teguh continued, this relocation will also be carried out in other areas such as East Jakarta and South Jakarta.
