SEAToday.com, Denpasar – The General Manager of Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, reported that by Wednesday (11/13) afternoon, a total of 90 flights had been canceled within the day due to the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Male in East Nusa Tenggara.
“As of Wednesday at 1:00 PM local time, the eruption affected 26 domestic flights and 64 international flights,” Syaugi stated in an announcement made in Denpasar.
The canceled domestic flights included 13 departures and 13 arrivals, impacting routes such as Labuan Bajo with four departures and four arrivals, Jakarta with four departures and four arrivals, Lombok with three departures and three arrivals, Tambolaka with two departures and one arrival, and Sumbawa with one arrival.
On the international front, the 64 cancellations included 34 departures and 30 arrivals. Originally only Australian routes were affected, but cancellations have now extended to other international destinations.
International cancellations affected flights on routes including Singapore with four departures and two arrivals, Hong Kong with two departures and one arrival, Doha with one departure and one arrival, Delhi with one departure, Bangalore with one departure and one arrival, and Darwin with one departure and one arrival. Other impacted routes include Sydney (four departures and four arrivals), Melbourne (six departures and six arrivals), Kuala Lumpur (five departures and four arrivals), Brisbane (two departures and two arrivals), and Pudong (one departure and one arrival).
Further cancellations involved flights to and from the Gold Coast with one departure and one arrival, Perth with two departures and three arrivals, Cairns with one departure and one arrival, Adelaide with one departure and one arrival, and Incheon with one departure and one arrival.
According to Syaugi, disruptions began on Monday, November 4. From November 8 to November 12, a total of 84 domestic and international flights have been affected by the volcanic eruption.
The airport advised affected passengers that they can seek refunds, reschedule flights, or reroute to alternative destinations.
Syaugi added that the airport has set up help desks and provided refreshments, such as bottled water, for impacted passengers on the second floor of both the international and domestic terminals.
