Prabowo Meets Biden at The White House to Discuss Indonesia-US Diplomatic Ties

SEAToday.com, Jakarta – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto met with U.S. President Joe Biden at the White House on Tuesday (12/11) afternoon, local time, as part of his visit to the United States.

During the meeting, President Prabowo was warmly received by President Biden, and the two leaders discussed the strong diplomatic ties between Indonesia and the U.S.

"Welcome to the White House. It's great to have you here. We are celebrating an important milestone, 75 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and the United States," President Biden said in a statement received in Jakarta, on Wednesday (13/11).

Biden expressed pride in the deepening partnership between the U.S. and Indonesia, noting that the relationship is now stronger than ever. He also emphasized his intention to explore ways to further strengthen the bilateral ties between the two countries.

The conversation also touched on key geopolitical challenges, including the ongoing conflicts in Gaza and the South China Sea. "We also discussed global challenges, including Gaza and the South China Sea. Mr. President, we look forward to our discussion. Welcome," Biden remarked.

In response, President Prabowo thanked Biden for personally reaching out to him after he won the 2024 presidential election. "Thank you for having me. I also want to express my gratitude for your call during the election. Finally, I am here, and I appreciate your warm reception today," Prabowo said.

Prabowo also highlighted the long-standing friendship between the U.S. and Indonesia, noting that the U.S. had supported Indonesia in its fight for independence and had come to the country's aid many times in the past. He pledged to continue working hard to further strengthen Indonesia-U.S. relations.

During the meeting, President Prabowo was accompanied by Indonesia's Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
