New Variant Found: COVID-19 Cases in Singapore Increase by 75 Pct.
SEAToday.com, Singapore - COVID-19 cases in Singapore increased by 75 percent compared to the previous week. The Singapore Health Ministry noted on Friday (12/15) that there were 56 thousand cases in the period December 3–9, 2023. This is an increase of 24 thousand cases compared to the previous week, which recorded 32 thousand cases.
In addition, the number of daily infections hospitalized due to the SARS-CoV-2 virus has also increased, from 225 to 350. The average number of patients requiring intensive care also increased from four to nine. Most cases were infected with the JN.1 variant, a subline of BA.2.86.
The Singapore Health Ministry said it has been working with public hospitals to implement contingency plans, such as ensuring adequate staffing and postponing non-urgent elective surgeries to maximize bed capacity for urgent cases requiring acute care.
