Hungarian Parliament Approved Sweden NATO Membership (AP)

SEAToday.com, Budapest - Sweden has cleared the final obstacle for the NATO membership as the Hungarian parliament on Monday (2/26) approved the bid after more than 18 months delay.

The parliamentary vote which passed with 188 members for and six against will make Sweden the 32nd member of NATO. Sweden had abandoned its 200 years of neutrality following the Russia attack on Ukraine back in 2022. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson hailed it as a “historic day” and vowed to stand responsible for “Euro-Atlantic security”.

Now that all the NATO allies have ratified the body, a flag-raising ceremony is expected at the NATO headquarters in Brussels later this week.
