SEAToday.com, Jakarta - National Energy Council (DEN) Chairman and Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Minister Bahlil Lahadalia targets Indonesia to have an operational Nuclear Power Plant (PLTN) by 2032.

“‘Regarding nuclear power, this is a groundbreaking step that we must take. In DEN, this has been seriously discussed. The target is, by 2032, nuclear energy will be operational,” Minister Bahlil said during a hearing with the House of Representatives Commission XII on Monday (12/2).

He said that the 2032 target is an important step for the Indonesian government in realizing the Asta Cita program, namely energy resilience. One of the steps taken by the government is the planned formation of the Nuclear Energy Program Implementation Committee (KP2EN), which is being prepared in a draft Presidential Regulation (R-Perpres).

Minister Bahlil believes that in addition to expanding the use of new and renewable energy, the utilization of nuclear energy can also help meet the energy needs of the Indonesian people.
