Russia Set to Expand Bilateral Ties with Indonesia

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - At the 2025 Russia-Indonesia Business Forum held in Jakarta on Monday (4/14), Russian Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Alexey Gruzdev expressed Russia’s readiness to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Indonesia.
“In many sectors, we have achieved significant milestones in recent years, and we are ready to make these the foundation of our bilateral cooperation with Indonesia,” he said as quoted on Antara.
Gruzdev noted that current trade between the two countries lacks diversity. Russia primarily exports fuel and energy commodities such as coal and oil to Indonesia, while importing agro-industrial goods like palm oil, coconut oil, butter, and cocoa from Indonesia.
“For Russia, palm oil supply from Indonesia is a key commodity—more than 90 percent of the palm oil imported into Russia comes from Indonesia. So, it’s fair to say this is a strategic vector of our cooperation,” he explained as quoted on Antara.
He also highlighted Russia’s growing interest in supplying pharmaceuticals to the Indonesian market, provided favorable economic and market conditions are met. “We can talk about medications for oncology, autoimmune and rare diseases, a full range of insulin, and various vaccines,” said Gruzdev as quoted on Antara.
Other potential areas of collaboration include tourism, passenger shipbuilding, and nuclear energy. “We are aware that Indonesia has adopted a plan to develop nuclear energy,” he said, as quoted on Anatar, adding that Russia could offer nuclear power plant construction and non-energy applications such as nuclear medicine, radioisotope supply, crop treatment, and improving agricultural shelf life.
Russia is also exploring new cargo shipping routes and expanding correspondent networks. “Russian logistics companies are interested in launching new routes, including container port infrastructure development,” he added as quoted on Antara.
Furthermore, Gruzdev emphasized Russia’s advancements in digital and IT sectors, offering Indonesia industrial software, digital navigation systems, cartography, and independent search engine technologies.
“We are pleased to offer all of this to the Indonesian market,” he concluded as quoted on Antara.
