SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Government is taking early measures to anticipate rob flooding in areas prone to hydrometeorological disasters.

"Based on forecasts, coastal flooding is expected around the 28th, 29th, and possibly even on the 31st, coinciding with Eid celebrations. That’s why we are starting preparations now," said Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung, as quoted on Antara, on Tuesday.

The mitigation efforts are focused on key flood-prone areas such as Muara Karang, Muara Angke, and Jalan RE Martadinata.

Governor Pramono has instructed the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) to be on standby to ensure public safety and minimize disruptions, allowing residents to celebrate Eid and travel for the holiday with peace of mind.

As part of the flood prevention efforts, the government has installed brojong—a structure made from woven steel wire filled with rocks to prevent soil erosion. Additionally, pumps have been prepared to manage water levels during potential flooding.

"In Muara Angke, we plan to raise the seawall by 2.5 meters. The decision has been made, and construction will begin after Eid," Pramono added as quoted on Antara.

The Jakarta government remains committed to strengthening coastal defenses and implementing proactive flood management strategies to safeguard residents from the impact of rising sea levels and extreme weather conditions.
