Government Strengthens Collaboration to Expand Film Distribution Network

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The Indonesian government is expanding international collaboration to enhance the global distribution of Indonesian films at the Hong Kong International Film & TV Market (FILMART) 2025.
Minister of Culture Fadli Zon is actively fostering cross-border film production, broadening Indonesia’s film distribution network, and solidifying its position in the Asian film industry alliance.
"As Indonesia’s film ecosystem grows, we have a great opportunity to establish strategic global partnerships," Fadli stated, in a press release on Wednesday, as quoted on Antara.
At the Asian Film Alliance Network (AFAN) discussion, attended by film industry representatives from South Korea, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, and Malaysia, Fadli emphasized the need for an Asian film bloc to strengthen the region’s bargaining power with global distributors and secure greater representation in international festivals and awards.
AFAN members, including South Korea and Thailand, expressed interest in expanding film partnerships with Indonesia. Thailand has allocated $6 million for joint film productions, while South Korea sees Indonesia as a key film market in Asia.
During discussions with Red Sea Souk Director Holly Daniel, Fadli highlighted the potential for Indonesia-Saudi Arabia film collaborations. With Asia as Red Sea Souk’s focus for 2025-2026, Indonesian films now have greater access to the Middle Eastern market.
He noted that Saudi Arabia’s growing interest in horror films presents a major opportunity for Indonesian filmmakers.
Fadli also met with CEO of Malaysia’s National Film Development Corporation (FINAS), Datuk Azmir Saifuddin, to discuss enhancing ASEAN film co-production efforts.
He reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening international collaborations, aiming to establish the country as a global creative hub for high-quality, competitive films, rather than just a market for foreign films.
