SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Egypt announced on Monday (02/24) that it is capable of rapidly rebuilding Gaza, which has been devastated by Israeli military assaults.

Egyptian Minister of Irrigation Hani Sewilam emphasized that both the Egyptian government and its people firmly oppose the forced displacement of Palestinians from their homeland.

He reiterated Egypt’s stance that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, encompassing Gaza and the West Bank, is the only viable solution for achieving lasting peace and security in the Middle East.

Sewilam revealed that Egypt has proposed a reconstruction plan for Gaza that does not involve relocating its residents. He highlighted Egypt’s extensive resources, including tens of thousands of skilled engineers and major construction companies, which could efficiently implement the rebuilding process in the shortest time possible.

However, he did not provide further details on the proposal or its official announcement timeline.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has repeatedly suggested relocating Gaza’s population and transforming the territory into a beach resort, referring to it as the "Riviera of the Middle East."

His controversial remarks have been widely condemned by Arab nations and the international community, with many viewing the proposal as a form of ethnic cleansing.

Trump’s comments come amid a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, which began last month and included a prisoner exchange. The truce temporarily halted Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, which has killed more than 48,300 Palestinians—mostly women and children—and left the territory in ruins.

In November, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Additionally, Israel is facing genocide charges at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over its military actions in Palestinian territories.
