US Envoy Rejects Claims of Forced Displacement in Trump’s Gaza Plan

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - US envoy to the Middle East, Steven Witkoff, stated on Thursday (02/20) that President Donald Trump's plan for Gaza does not involve the forced displacement of its residents.

“This does not mean we are designing a deportation plan,” Witkoff said, as quoted on Antara, at a conference in Miami.

He explained that Trump’s remarks were meant to challenge perspectives and explore urgent solutions for Palestinians in Gaza, including whether they wish to stay or relocate for better economic opportunities.

Previously, Trump has repeatedly suggested that the US should “take over” Gaza and transform it into the “Middle East Riviera,” a proposal widely condemned by Arab nations and others as ethnic cleansing.

Currently, a three-phase ceasefire agreement has been in effect since January 19, pausing Israel’s 15-month war that has killed over 48,300 people and devastated the region.

Witkoff acknowledged challenges in moving to the next phase, emphasizing Israel’s firm stance against Hamas remaining in power.

Despite difficulties, he expressed hope for further progress in negotiations.
