Top Democratic Party Figure Calls for President Yoon to Resign
SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Criticism of South Korea’s President Yoon is intensifying after his decision to reverse an earlier martial law decree. Park Chan-dae, a prominent member of the Democratic Party, has called for Yoon's immediate resignation, claiming the president's actions threaten the nation’s democracy.
"Yoon cannot avoid the charge of treason," Park stated, urging for his swift removal from office. This bold demand came just after Yoon’s controversial martial law declaration.
Yoon’s position has become more precarious as opposition leaders unite against him. Cho Kuk, the head of a smaller opposition party, labeled the president "a dangerous being." He condemned Yoon’s actions as a direct attack on South Korea's democratic principles.
Cho’s criticism echoes concerns over the president’s authority, suggesting a misuse of power that puts the constitution at risk. “He put all the people in shock,” Cho added, underlining the scale of public disillusionment.
The opposition has already begun to mobilize efforts for impeachment, with Cho pledging to gather support from other political factions. This marks a significant escalation in the political tension surrounding the president.
As of December 4, 2024, it is clear that Yoon’s leadership is facing a major crisis. His decisions have sparked outrage, and calls for his removal grow louder within the political landscape.
