SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Balai Besar Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam Nusa Tenggara Timur (BBKSDA NTT) melepasliarkan seekor Komodo (Veranus Komodoensis) di Hutan Watu Pajung, Desa Nampar Sepang, Kecamatan Sambi Rampas, Kabupaten Manggarai Timur, NTT.
“Kami baru saja melepasliarkan seekor Komodo yang merupakan satwa liar yang dilindungi,” kata Kepala Resor Watu Nggong Bidang KSDA Wilayah II Ruteng Yohanes Marung, Kamis (2/1/2025).
Pelepasliaran satwa dilindungi itu dilakukan di Hutan Watu Pajang, yang merupakan habitat dari Komodo yang menjadi daya tarik wisatawan yang berkunjung ke NTT.
Yohanes mengatakan bahwa pelepasliaran ini dilakukan sudah berdasarkan peraturan yang berlaku. Saat dilepasliakan, komodo tersebut pun dalam keadaan sehat serta lengkap.
Sementara itu, Komodo yang dilepas tersebut memiliki panjang 197 cm dan berat 20 kilogram.
Sebelumnya, Komodo tersebut diserahkan oleh warga setempat pada Kamis (26/12) kepada BBKSDA. Baru setelah itu dilepasliarkan kembali.
“Komodo diterima dalam kondisi hidup dengan kaki kiri belakang tidak bisa digerakkan yang diasumsikan karena tertabrak kendaraan yang melintas,” jelas Pengabdi Lingkungan Kalpataru Arsyad.

Setelah dilakukan proses serah terima, pengurusan dan perawatan segera dilakukan demi menjamin keselamatan dan kesehatan Komodo tersebut.
Proses pelepasliaran satwa yang dilindungi ini telah dijalankan seturut dengan PP No. 7 Tahun 1999 tentang Pengawetan Jenis Tumbuhan dan Satwa dan PP No. 8 Tahun 1999 tentang Pemanfaatan Jenis Tumbuhan dan Satwa Liar.
