BRIN Ungkap Indonesia Miliki Potensi Terumbu Laut untuk Alternatif Pangan

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Professor Wikanti Asriningrum sebagai Peneliti Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional (BRIN) mengungkapkan bahwa Indonesia mempunyai daerah bentangan goba (lagoon) terumbu laut dangkal yang dapat menjadi sumber alternatif sumber pangan.
"Di dalam goba terumbu, di dalam terumbunya sendiri, dapat menjadi alternatif bagi ketahanan pangan di Indonesia, terutama yang bersumber dari perairan laut dangkal," kata Wikanti dikutip dari Antara.
Itu diungkapkan berdasarkan pengamatan citra satelit di wilayah Kepulauan Seribu, DKI Jakarta.
"Goba terumbu atau bentuk lahan terumbu ini menyediakan lebih banyak nutrisi untuk budi daya, misalnya keramba ikan laut, rumput laut, dan sebagainya," tambahnya.
Selain pemanfaatan sebagai alternatif sumber pangan, terumbu yang ada di laut dangkal tersebut juga dapat menjadi sumber air.
“Karena bersih goba terumbu bisa menjadi sumber air untuk diproses menjadi air siap minum, seperti yang di Pulau Panggang,” pungkas Wikanti.
Pemanfaatan satelit ini juga dilakukan untuk memberikan kesepahaman yang sama bagi para peneliti, pelaut, dan pembuat kebijakan.
