SEAToday.com, Wellington - Gempa berkekuatan 7,3 SR terjadi hanya 30 km di lepas pantai ibukota Vanuatu, Port Vila, Selasa (17/12), memicu tanah longsor dan meratakan sejumlah bangunan, termasuk beberapa kedutaan besar.
Gempa tersebut diikuti oleh gempa susulan berkekuatan 5,5 SR di dekat lokasi yang sama dan guncangan terus berlanjut sepanjang sore dan malam hari waktu setempat. Peringatan tsunami juga sempat dikeluarkan, namun dibatalkan kurang dari dua jam setelah gempa.
Video di media sosial menunjukkan banyak bangunan besar yang runtuh di Port Vila, beberapa di antaranya menimpa mobil. Perumahan untuk sejumlah misi diplomatik di Port Vila, termasuk Amerika Serikat, Inggris, Perancis, dan Selandia Baru, mengalami kerusakan parah, kata Kementerian Luar Negeri Selandia Baru.
Saat ini, terdata 48 WNI yang berada di Vanuatu. Pihak KBRI Canberra tengah mencoba menghubungi WNI, diaspora, kolega, pejabat dan titik kontak untuk mendapatkan kabar dan kondisi mereka.
Namun, kontak-kontak tersebut belum dapat dihubungi. Terdapat informasi dari otoritas Vanuatu, yang sedang berada di Sydney, bahwa jaringan telekomunikasi di Port Vila lumpuh saat ini.
