Palestina Gagal Menjadi Anggota Penuh PBB Usai Diveto Amerika Serikat

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Palestina gagal menjadi anggota penuh Perserikatan Bangsa-Bangsa (PBB) setelah Amerika Serikat (AS) memveto upaya Dewan Keamanan PBB untuk mengadopsi resolusi tersebut, Kamis (18/4). Rancangan resolusi yang diperkenalkan Aljazair tersebut mendapat 12 suara pendukung, dua abstain (Inggris dan Swiss), dan satu menolak. 

 

Wakil Duta Besar Amerika Serikat untuk PBB Robert Wood mengatakan, negara Palestina merdeka harus didirikan melalui perundingan langsung antara Israel dan Otoritas Palestina, bukan melalui keputusan PBB. Sementara itu, Presiden Palestina Mahmoud Abbas mengecam keras veto tersebut. Presiden Abbas menyebut, veto AS tidak adil, tidak etis, dan tidak dapat dibenarkan. 

 

Saat ini, Palestina merupakan negara pengamat non-anggota, sebuah pengakuan de-facto atas status kenegaraan Palestina yang diberikan Majelis Umum PBB pada tahun 2012. (DHITA/ LUTHFI)
