SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Pemerintah secara resmi telah menghapus praktik sunat perempuan melalui Peraturan Pemerintah Nomor 28 Tahun 2024 tentang Kesehatan yang tertuang dalam Pasal 102 huruf a. Langkah tegas ini diambil sebagai upaya untuk melindungi hak-hak dan kesehatan reproduksi usia anak hingga dewasa.
Direktur Pencegahan dan Pengendalian Penyakit Tidak Menular Kementerian Kesehatan dr. Siti Nadia Tarmizi menjelaskan, Kamis (1/8) bahwa keputusan ini sejalan dengan rekomendasi Organisasi Kesehatan Dunia (WHO) yang menegaskan bahwa sunat perempuan tidak memiliki manfaat medis dan justru dapat menimbulkan berbagai risiko kesehatan.
Selain itu, pemerintah juga mendorong upaya edukasi kepada masyarakat, terutama anak-anak, mengenai kesehatan reproduksi. Edukasi ini mencakup pemahaman perbedaan organ reproduksi laki-laki dan perempuan, pentingnya menjaga kebersihan organ intim, serta cara menolak tindakan yang membahayakan organ reproduksi.
