Paus Leo XIV Sampaikan Keprihatinan Soal Gaza dan Ukraina
SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Paus Leo XIV menunjukkan kepeduliannya terhadap Palestina dengan menyebut anak-anak dan warga Gaza “telah terjerumus ke dalam jurang kelaparan.”
“Anak-anak, keluarga-keluarga, dan para lansia di Jalur Gaza telah terjerumus ke dalam jurang kelaparan,”
Hal itu disampaikannya dalam pidato pada misa pelantikan di Lapangan Santo Petrus, Vatikan, Minggu (18/5/2025) waktu setempat.
Dalam pidatonya, Paus mengatakan “Dalam sukacita iman dan kebersamaan, kita tidak boleh melupakan saudara-saudari kita yang tengah menderita akibat perang,” demikian dikutip dari Kantor Berita Vatikan seperti dilansir Antara.
Paus juga menyinggung soal Ukraina yang masih terus berperang dengan Rusia. Paus mengatakan negosiasi sangat penting agar terciptanya peradmaian yang adil dan berkelanjutan.
Paus Leo XIV terpilih untuk menggantikan Paus Fransiskus yang meninggal dunia. Bernama asli Robert Prevost, Paus Leo XIV menjadi Paus pertama dalam 200 tahun terakhir yang berasal dari Amerika Serikat.
