Seekor Bayi Badak Jantan Lahir di Taman Nasional Way Kambas

SEAToday.com, Lampung - Seekor bayi badak berjenis kelamin jantan lahir di Pusat Penangkaran Badak Sumatra atau Suaka Rhino Sumatra Balai Taman Nasional Way Kambas (SRS TNWK), Lampung, Sabtu (25/11). Saat ini, kondisi bayi badak dengan berat 25 kilogram tersebut sehat dan bisa menyusu dengan baik kepada induknya. Bayi badak tersebut juga sudah dapat berdiri tegak dan berjalan.
Menteri Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan (LHK) Siti Nurbaya menjelaskan bahwa bayi badak Sumatra (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis) tersebut lahir dari indukan bernama Delilah, badak betina yang lahir secara alami pada 11 Mei 2016.
Badak Delilah melahirkan badak jantan di luar waktu perkiraan, yakni di hari kehamilan ke-460, 10 hari lebih cepat dari perkiraan kelahiran. Kelahiran ini menjadi kelahiran anak badak kedua di tahun 2023, sekaligus kelahiran pertama dari induk badak berusia tujuh tahun tersebut. Saat ini, terdapat lima individu badak Sumatra yang berhasil dilahirkan di SRS TNWK, yaitu Andatu (2012), Delilah (2016), Sedah Mirah (2022), anak ketiga dari Ratu-Andalas (30 September 2023) dan anak dari Delilah-Harapan (25 November 2023).
