SEAToday.com, Johannesburg - South Africa will submit a detailed document that includes forensic evidence to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) aiming to strengthen the case of Israel committing genocide in Palestine.

A South African diplomatic source, who requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media, confirmed this to Anadolu on Sunday ( 10/27) and said the memorial would be submitted on Monday.

South African Foreign Minister Ronald Lamola told the Daily Maverick news website that the so-called memorial contains more evidence in forensic detail to show that it was not just a case of possible genocide, but indeed genocide.

The report mentions that after the memorial is filed, the responding party (in this case, Israel) must file a counter memorial by July 28 next year.

South Africa filed a genocide case against Israel at the Hague-based court in late 2023, claiming that Israel, which has been bombing Gaza since last October, failed to fulfill its commitments under the 1948 Genocide Convention.

Several countries, including Turkey, Nicaragua, Palestine, Spain, Mexico, Libya and Colombia, have joined the case, which began holding public hearings in January.

In May, the ICJ ordered Israel to halt its assault on the southern Gaza town of Rafah. It was the third time the 15-judge panel has issued a preliminary injunction seeking to limit the number of casualties and alleviate humanitarian suffering in the blockaded territory, where the toll has exceeded 44,000.
