SEAToday.com, Nusantara - Indonesia’s first basilica will be built in Nusantara (IKN). This house of worship will be named Basilica Nusantara Santo Fransiskus Xaverius.

Executive Secretary of the Liturgy Commission of the Indonesian Bishops' Conference (KWI) Riston Situmorang OSC said on Sunday (9/15) that the basilica construction is awaiting permission from the Holy See. The tender process for the construction is also underway.

The Religious Affairs Ministry’s Director General of Catholic Public Guidance, Suparman, mentioned on Tuesday (7/30) that the basilica's design had been determined, with a planned building area of nearly 12,000 sqm. Construction will at least begin around October 2024 and is targeted for completion in March 2025.

Suparman hoped the basilica would become an important landmark that symbolizes the harmony of various religious communities in Indonesia.
