Traffic Engineering to be Implemented during Pope Francis' Visit to Jakarta

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) is implementing traffic engineering in connection with the visit of World Catholic Church leader Pope Francis to Indonesia on 3-6 September in Jakarta.

‘In connection with the visit of Pope Francis to Indonesia on 3-6 September 2024, we are conducting traffic engineering in the areas to be visited and the implementation of the grand mass,’ Jakarta Transportation Agency Head Syafrin Liputo said when confirmed in Jakarta on Sunday.

The following traffic engineering is applied by the Jakarta Transportation Agency during the visit of Pope Francis:

Traffic engineering Wednesday (4/9) at the Cathedral Church starting at 4.00 p.m.

  • Traffic diversion routes from the South (Bundaran HI, Tanah Abang, Kebon Sirih, Budi Kemuliaan) towards the East (Senen Station) can be via Jalan Thamrin on the West side-Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat on the West side-Jalan Majapahit-Jalan Juanda Jalan Pos-Jalan Gunung Sahari-and so on;
  • Traffic from East (Menteng) to West (Tanah Abang) can use Jalan Hos Cokroaminoto-Jalan Wahid Hasyim-Jalan Mas Mansyur-and so on.

Traffic engineering Thursday (5/9) at Istiqlal Mosque starting at 08.30 a.m.

  • Traffic diversion routes from the South (Bundaran HI, Tanah Abang, Kebon Sirih, Budi Kemuliaan) towards the East (Senen Station) can use Jalan Thamrin on the West side-Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat on the West side-Jalan Majapahit-Jalan Juanda-Jalan Pos-Jalan Gunung Sahari-and so on;
  • Traffic from East (Menteng) to West (Tanah Abang) can use Jalan Hos Cokroaminoto-Jalan Wahid Hasyim-Jalan Mas Mansyur-and so on.

Traffic engineering Thursday (5/9) at Gelora Bung Karno starting at 3.30 p.m.

  • Traffic from the South (Cipete) heading to the West (Slipi) or North (Monas) can use Jalan Kyai Maja-Jalan Kebayoran Baru-Jalan Arteri Pondok Indah-turning at the U-Turn in front of Gandaria City-Jalan Teuku Nyak Arief-Jalan Tentara Pelajar-and so on;
  • Traffic from North (Harmoni) to South (Blok M) can go through Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat-Jalan Budi Kemuliaan-Jalan Abdul Muis-Jalan Fachrudin-Jalan KH Mas Mansyur-Jalan Penjernihan-Jalan Pejompongan-Jalan Tentara Pelajar-Jalan Teuku Nyak Arief-Jalan Kebayoran Baru-Jalan Kyai Maja-Jalan Panglima Polim-and so on;
  • Traffic from East (Tebet) to West (Slipi) can go through Jalan Kapten Tendean-Jalan Wolter Monginsidi-Jalan Trunojoyo-Jalan Kyai Maja-Jalan Kebayoran Baru-Jalan Arteri Pondok Indah turning in front of Gandaria City U-turn-Jalan Teuku Nyak Arief-Jalan Tentara Pelajar-Jalan S Parman-and so on;
  • Traffic from the West (Slipi) heading East (Tebet) can go through Jalan S Parman-Jalan Pejompongan-Jalan Penjernihan-Jalan RM Margono-Jalan Galunggung-Jalan Dr Saharjo-Jalan Prof Dr Soepomo-Jalan MT Haryono-and so on.

Pope Francis is scheduled to make an apostolic journey to Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste, and Singapore from 2-13 September 2024.

Indonesia is the first country in Pope Francis' series of visits to the Asia Pacific region, from 3-6 September.

The Pope will then visit Port Moresby (Papua New Guinea) and Vanimo from 6-9 September 2024, Dili (Timor Leste) from 9-11 September 2024, and Singapore from 11-13 September 2024.

Pope Francis is scheduled to arrive in Indonesia on the afternoon of 3 September 2024. Then, the next day or on 4 September, the leader of the Catholic faithful is scheduled to meet President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.

Then, on 5 September 2024, Pope Francis is scheduled to attend an interfaith meeting at the Istiqlal Mosque, Jakarta, followed by a meeting with beneficiaries of charitable organisations at the Indonesian Bishops' Conference Office.
