House of Representatives and General Election Commission to Approve 2024 Regional Elections to Follow Constitutional Court Verdicts

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Commission II of the House of Representatives together with the General Elections Commission (KPU) and the Government approved the General Elections Commission Regulation (PKPU) Number 8 of 2024 concerning the nomination of regional heads for the 2024 regional elections to accommodate the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK).
The consensus was reached during a hearing between Commission II of the House of Representatives, the KPU, and the government on Sunday with the sole agenda of discussing Draft KPU Regulation Number 8 of 2024, which accommodates Constitutional Court Decisions Number 60/PUU-XXII/2024 and Number 70/PUU-XXII/2024.
“ Commission II of the House of Representatives together with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Ministry of Home Affairs, KPU RI, Bawaslu RI and DKPP RI approved the draft PKPU on the amendment to PKPU Number 8 of 2024 concerning the Nomination of Governors and Deputy Governors, Regents and Deputy Regents, and Mayors and Deputy Mayors. Can we approve it. Agreed? Alhamdulillah,” said Chairman of Commission II of the DPR Ahmad Doli Kurnia who chaired the hearing at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Sunday, August 25, 2024, as reported by Antara.
He emphasized that the draft KPU Regulation Number 8 of 2024 had fully accommodated the Constitutional Court's decisions Number 60/PUU-XXII/2024 and Number 70/PUU-XXII/2024.
“We already know that the draft of KPU Regulation on the amendment of KPU Regulation Number 8 has been accommodating, there is no less, no more than the Constitutional Court's decision Number 60 and 70,” he said.
The hearing, which began at around 10:00 am, was also attended by the Chairman of the General Election Commission Mochammad Afifuddin, Chairman of the Elections Supervisory Agency Rahmat Bagja, Chairman of DKPP RI Heddy Lugito, Minister of Law and Human Rights Supratman Andi Agtas, and representatives of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
