Two Suspects Arrested Over Illegal Trade of Two Tiger Cubs and 100 Kilograms of Elephant Tusks In Thailand

SEAToday.com, Surin - Two suspects are arrested for the illegal trade of two tiger cubs and 100 kilograms of elephant tusks in a Thai police sting operation in Surin province, Thailand this Tuesday (07/16/2024).

The tiger cubs were sold from a tiger farm in Chon Buri district for 200000 baht, while the elephant tusks were valued at about 3 million baht in total.

The National Park Office director, Chaiwat Limlikhitaksorn, led Phraya Sue special force with local police/ in a sting operation to buy the tiger cubs for 350000 baht in Sangkha district, Surin province.

The tiger cubs were found dehydrated and suffering diarrhea by the police in the operation and later were taken to Chulabhorn Wildlife Captive Breeding Centre in Si Sa Ket district.

The two suspects were also found to have smuggled 4 Asian elephant tusks, 26 African elephant ivories, and 19 ivory products.

Additionally, the illegal trade has been closely tracked down for two years with ten days surveillance operation backed by local politicians.

Moreover, the two suspects faced protected animal-related charges and illegal trade of wild animals.

Furthermore, authorities will focus on suspending the tiger farms in Si Racha district, Chon Buri province, and also processing them according to the proper legal procedures.
