Google Translate Expands Reach with 110 New Languages Including Acehnese to Betawi
SEAToday.com, Jakarta - On June 27, Google significantly expanded the reach of its translation service, Google Translate, by adding 110 new languages. This marks the largest expansion in Google Translate's history, bringing the total number of supported languages to 243.
The addition of these new languages was made possible by Google's Large Language Model AI (PaLM 2), which facilitates easier and more efficient language learning.
The newly added languages include Indonesian regional languages such as Balinese, Acehnese, Madurese, three Batak languages, Betawi, Makassarese, Minangkabau, and others. On the international front, Cantonese, Tetum, Fijian, Tahitian, Tibetan, and other languages from various countries have also been added.
Google Translate's efforts to expand its language coverage aim to improve communication access for the global community, considering that most of these new languages are spoken by at least one million people worldwide.
