SEAToday.com, Manila-On Wednesday, April 24, the heat level in the city of Manila, Philipines, is forecasted to reach 43 degrees Celsius. Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan decided to suspend in-person classes for both public and private schools due to the hazardous heat conditions.

Additionally, a Philippines teaching association, the alliance of concerned teachers of the Philippines – national capital region conducted a survey that revealed in metro Manila's public schools, 87 percent of students experienced heat-related issues.

Adding on, over 75 percent of teachers described the heat as unbearable with 46 percent noting inadequate ventilation as many classrooms have only one or two electric fans.

In addition, continuous exposure to dangerous heat indexes may cause implications including heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.

GMA News reported that students from 7 thousands of public schools all across southeast Asian nations were dismissed early due to abnormally high temperatures which meteorologists have attributed to the impacts of the El Niño weather pattern.
