Indonesia Officially Takes Control of Riau-Natuna Islands Airspace from Singapore
SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Indonesia has officially taken over the regulation of the airspace with all flight information, Flight Information Region (FIR), control in the Riau Islands and Natuna regions from Singapore. The arrangement is effective from Friday (3/22) after the completion of the FIR realignment agreement with the Singaporean government.
Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said on Sunday (3/24) that the agreement increased Jakarta’s FIR area to 2,842,725 square kilometers, or up 9.5 percent than the original area. In addition, aircraft flying in the FIR realignment area will now receive flight navigation services from Indonesia, instead of the previous flight navigation contacts from Singapore.
Minister Sumadi said, the government is making every effort to ensure that the management of Indonesian airspace is safe, efficient, and in line with national interests as well as international standards of civil aviation services. He is optimistic that the transfer of the FIR will have a positive impact on Indonesia, especially in terms of government revenues. (DHITA/ DKD)
